New York State energy exemption revision on the delivery sales tax effective June 1, 2019.
On June 1, 2019, all business customers will no longer have the delivery sales tax exemption of 4.375%
when they purchase their energy supply from a third party ie ESCO.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo made this announcement on April 1, 2019
after the State Legislature agreed to this change in order to provide more revenue for the 2019-2020 state budget. This change will bring an anticipated state tax revenue increase of….$96,000,000 for 2019
and $128,000,000 for 2020.
The New York State Legislature saw no further need to provide third party energy suppliers this price advantage over utilities.
